I have a HP IPAQ 6515 thats locked to Cinular Network. I need assistance in unlocking this phone. I tried pruchasing the unlock service from several unlock code service providers but they all came back saying that the code was not found in the database. This is done by " unlock by IMEI No. "

I am not sure if there is any other way the code can be generated from the IMEI. Are there ways to unlock by cable? And how does unlocking GSM phones work?

I would appreciate any valid help.

Good Luck !

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. You need to contact the service operator. This is the only real way of doing it. Most service providers provide the phone free of charge but lock it to their network to ensure future revenue as per the contract.

If your contract has expired then you should be able to get it unlocked from your service provider.

Please have a look at your contract. It would most likely be illegal to unlock the phone.

Because locking is done for reasons described  by c661jmb above it was specifically designed not to be easy to do. In fact the operator will inform you that it is impossible to do without their help.

Although certain individuals in the underworld obtain information by illegal trade on the black market you may be able to find some criminal somewhare that can assist you for a fee. Unfortunately I do not know any that I could refer you to ;o)
it can be unlocked by some service providers.
they will charge $25 to $50 and will send you the code after asking the IMIE of your phone.
make sure to send the correct IMIE number cause code is created using that sequence.
