can dell dimension 4550 boot an os from external hard drive or memory stick?

Hello,
Do you know if a Dell Dimension 4550 desktop pc can boot an operating system ( xp or windows 2000) from an external usb hard drive or a memory stick?
The desktop is running windows xp pro.

Press F12 during boot up and see if there's an option for booting from USB.  If the option isn't there, then no, you cannot.  If it is there, you can just plug in the external HD or memory stick and tell it to boot from there.
