Autodesk Architechtural Desktop 2007 slow opening files

When opening drawings from our network storage, they take more then a couple minutes to open.  Normally they only take a couple secconds.  I tried transfering files and they transfered from my computer to the server at normal speed (1Gbit).  The computer has Dual P4 Xeon 3.0GHz with 4GB RAM.
Also if I run a script from that same location it has the same slow down.  Once the drawing is open it runs fine and saving works fast like normal.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It usually comes down to these things:
1) the file is just big (which includes x-ref's, menues, etc.);
2) the file paths may not point to where the files are located (see Format/Options/Files) check that the paths points to where those files are located.  Otherwise the program keeps searching the paths until they are exhausted;
3) In layer manager, check that an excessive number of filters have not been carried forward with the file;
4) and, we always have network traffic slowing us down.

Check those things and comment back, please.

I found that there was shortcut in My Network places that pointed to a server that doesn't exist anymore.  Once I deleted this this shortcut, AutoCAD started working fine again.
