How do I disable GPS on blackberry? URGENT VERY VERY URGENT

My work handed out new blackberry cell phones recently and they have GPS capabiblities. One feature that our boss bragged about was the GPS locater they have at the office. Its basically sometype of software that tells your location to your boss, I know you wouldn't want that and I don't want that. Please give me a solution ASAP. Thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Put it in a lead pouch.  You can't reconfigure a device that is enterprise activated.

I do see a "GPS" option in the advanced menu, I set it to "Off" will that block anything ?

When I go into the advanced options and go under "GPS" this is the message I get:
"Turning location on will allow the network to detect your position, making some Sprint PCS applications easier to use. TUrning location off will hide your location from everyone except 911. Even if location is turned on in this handset, no service may use your location without your express permission"

Should I believe this? keep in mind it is a company phone. And has enterprise email and stuff like that.

If you have the option- I would trust it.  I can set it to prompt or turn on or off.  There is a lot of info on this.  I can see network status, battery, last check in, Uptime.  I don't see where I can pull GPS data.  It seems you would have to enable GPS then go to sprint's site or install some type app on the BB.  Some features are read only but the GPS is configurable as an application policy.
I can't say for sure but you look safe if you leave it off.  Turn it on and you are fair game.

I personally think your Boss has made up a little story to scare all the BlackBerry users.  All tracking apps at this stage prompt the user if it's ok to report their position; also these apps aren't cheap so if your Boss is a little tight with money he is defiantly making it up.

I know this one is all closed down, but I'm with Garycutri on this one.  The GPS function is for you to locate your OWN position, not some spooky tracking device for your boss.

Not so scary after all...

if you enable location tracking on your BES server it will store the location every few minutes in a table in the database, this can be disabled  by going options >> advanced options >> GPS >> location tracking OFF

It is possible to set the database to add this location data to another table in the database every time it is updated, and then export the locations to google earth for example and see where you have been.

Your blackberry will tell you when your BES admin tries to turn it on again.
