Can't Logon to Windows server 2000

I have a 2000 server that runs some SQL databases and is a file server. The server seems to be running flawlessly, howerver I cannot log into the server with any accounts the login screen just hangs. I first tried remotly connecting like always and this is when I first noticed it. I tried with another account and still nothing. I even tried logging on Locally and still no go. I then got in front of the computer and connected a monitor and keyboard up and it still does nothing. It just hangs there. so then rebooted the server. Again still cant get in. What's going on here? what else could I try. I don't even know where to start. Thanks

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

not yet. I really only had like 5 minutes to let there server go down. so I just restart hoping it would fix it. I should be able to boot into safe mode tonight tho. I know its hard  right now since I cant get into Event Viewer or look at anything at all. but does anyone know what would have caused this?
