Fixing a PIX 520 wrong os insatll

I was given a PIX 520 which some moron actually loaded OS 8.0 on.  Now when I boot it does boot up but says that 8.0 cannot run on this box then tries to reboot.

I have downloaded the smallest OS from Cisco's website 6.2.2 but that is still 1.6 meg.  Is there any way to fix this?  Is there any os that will fit on a 1.44 floppy that I can load up?  If there is an os that will fit on the floppy can some one email it to me please? louis_bohm@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Louis

you can boot you cisco into boot loaded mode, delete 8.0 image (you'll get some free space) and load(via xmodem?) 6.2.2 you have mentioned.

ASKER

I have read this about 10 times...  Where can I find the BootHelper image they are talking about?  Or where can I find the pix611.bin image?  I have searched and searched Cisco's site and can find neither.

pix622.bin is to big to fit on a 1.44 meg floppy.

The Cisco PIX 520 does not have a MONITOR mode.

I have the password erase utility.  All that does is erase the password then reboot the box.

look at this link
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15651

they send you to tss.cisco.com, at least they offer to register there....

hope this helps
That last link just sends me to the password recovery page and the downloads of npxx.bin.

Louis
yepp, but you can manually point your browser to
www-tss.cisco.com/eservice/
So I cannot register at  tss.cisco "EST Registration is available only to Cisco employees".

Louis
take a look here:
http://www.ciscosim.net/thread-806-1-1.html

suppose you they want you to register
confirmed. enough to register there and post reply to the thread.
you can download files mentioned there
I got on and downloaded the files.  From my reading I put the boothelper on a floppy and boot off that.  Then I can tftp a new os to the flash.

Is this correct???

Louis
yes, you have to configure ip address and download file via tftp:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/110/upgrade.shtml
good luck with upgrade!
After I tftp the new image (I tried pix515.bin, pix615.bin and pix635.bin) it receives the image then gives this message:
Watchdog timeout failure! Please contact customer support.
Then it outputs some process info and traceback info then reboots.  It never asks me if I want to save the image to flash.

Whats up now?
Louis
hi!
haven't faced the problem you describe, still take a look here:
http://www.sadikhov.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t104976.html
Cool...  And where do I find pix4xx.bin or any pix os that will fit on a 1.44meg floppy??

Louis
what bh image you have used?
please configure, that you are booting with the most closest bh to the real image you want to install.
please also confirm, that you have successfully downloaded image to the switch and then switch successfully installed it. (as it was described in http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/110/upgrade.shtml)
I tried it with bh515 and pix515 and still the same error.  I think my options are:
   a. Find a pix os that I can load on a 1.44meg floppy
   b. Find a 2.88meg floppy drive and disk and see if the pix will see it.

hi Louis,
how is it going with yout 520. unfortunately I'm out of ideas about this topic... I'm very sorry about that.
Sorry for not responding sooner.  I have been busy getting laid off twice in the last 6 months.

Anyway, before I last got laid off one of the Network people at my last job said they could get me a pix os that would completely run on a floppy.  Well that never happened.

At this point there is nothing I can do until I can find a pix os small enough to run on a floppy.

I think it is about time I closed this ticket.  But how should I deal with the points?  A lot of good answers were provided, unfortunetly they could not help me.

Louis
Hi, you can close the questions and and redistribute points to one or more experts and some points you can refund
