Need help deleting a user in Active Directory

Specific - when trying to create a user (John Smith, as an example), I get an error that this user already exists.  Knowing this is not the case, I search and find something like this in the AD forest -

Smith, JohnCNF:75b5fed3-249a-425e-a98b-7f1c60af1ee7

When trying to delete this object, I get this error -

"Windows cannot delete this object, because directory object not found."

I forced replication between sites.
I am logged on as user that has complete control of everything in the forest.

How would I go about cleaning this user up?

Hello jenmilks,

Are you having any replication errors/issues?

If not i would consider using adsiedit or LDP to manually clean up if you are sure.

Be carefull with these tools as they can do real damage in the wrong hands.

Thanks for the offer.  I'm sure this is probably how to find it, but I can't locate it when I connect to the domain using LDP which it's supposed to be in, I can't find it.

No replication issues I can see.  Thanks for attempting to help.
