Why VMware P2V could not load hal.dll file when VMware Converter boots up?

I tried to convert a Windows 2000 server installed on a Compaq Deskpro box. I boot it up from VMware Converter CD and end up with the following error:
File \I386\system32\hal.dll could not be loaded. The error code is 8192.
Q#1. What does this error mean?
Q#2. Does it mean the P2V does not support the hardware?
Q#3. Any alternatives to virtualize it?

Thanks a lot.

Your hal is not there. Is your computer booting correct, then the cd is probably corrupt and you should make a new one
Q#2. Does it mean the P2V does not support the hardware?
I do not think so, but it is possible. You could insert the correct drivers with the Hardware Support Customizer (http://www.vmware.com/support/p2v21/doc/p2v21_releasenotes.html#custom)
Q#3. Any alternatives to virtualize it?
Yes. You could do it remote (install converter on an other machine, instead of booting). Or create a clone (ghost, acronis, snapshot, .....) restore that back in a vmware workstation and convert it then (restore the machine in the virtual, but leave it off).

The CD used to be OK the day before. I am able to see hal.dll file on the CD. So maybe that CD drive has some issue.
Since I no longer need to convert the machine, so I just close the case here.
Thank you for your help.
