Vista Reinstallation DVD

I went to reinstall vista off the supplied DVD from dell. After I put it in an ran it, I chose to download it onto the C: drive, then after it restarted I got an error message that said: Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the case. Then I got an error message that said, The windows boot configuration data file is missing. File \boot\BCD. I selected F12 to boot the DVD manually which it starts Vista but I keep getting the same message. What do I do?

Why were you reinstalling Vista, were you experiencing any problems?

Is the disc damaged or dirty?

Try it again, but delete the old partition instead of installing over it, like it sounds like you may have.  When it asks where you want to install, one of the options will let you delete the current partition, then you will have to create a new one.  Many times left over files can corrupt an install and give strange error codes.
Forced accept.
