Microsoft Fax on SBS 2003 Server will not answer calls; Fax Monitor shows "call answered"

I have the Microsof Fax Service running on a Small Business Server 2003 R2.  The fax service / modem stopped answering calls today.  When a call comes in, the Fax Monitor shows that the call WAS answered, but in actuality, the call is still ringing and the fax is never received.  This server was receiving faxes correctly up to now.  No changes to server that I am aware of.

Thanks for any help!

The SBS 2003 R2 is completely up to date.
Modem is a USR 5685 External fax/modem

Try rebooting your server . You may try reconfiguring fax services. See document in

I did reboot the server - no change.

I reconfigured the fax services AND set the answer to 2 rings as directed by a Microsoft KB article - that fixed it.  Somehow, the Fax Server lost the settings.

Reconfiguring the Fax Service combined with resetting the fax service to answer after 2 rings (instead of 1) as directed by a MS KB article fixed the problem.  Thanks!
