Brightstor Media Pool and rotation issue

I am using Brightstor 11.1 and I created a Media Pool of which I had 4 tapes. I then placed 17 additional tapes in the library and wish to add them to the media pool. I know that if I format the tapes Brightstor will allow me to add the tapes to the media pool, but when I go to format a tape, it is asking me to name the tape. How can I get Brightstor to name the tapes automatically like it did when I set up the rotation? Is there any other way to add the tapes to the media pool?

My rotation is a 7 day rotation, 1 full backup on Friday and every day a differential backup. I am backing up DC's and 1 Exchange server (only the information stores). I set retention time to 21 days and I have a total of 21 tapes, will this work? On the backup job, should I set it to overwrite or append?

How can I setup an additional job that will run monthly so that we have a full backup monthly as well, or is this not necessary?

Thanks.

Thanks. Is the retention time I have okay and should I use append or overwrite?
you should reduce the retention time. At 21 days it will not use a tape again until after 21 says have passed and at that point with only 21 tapes the job will fail due to a lack of tapes.

Okay thanks. What would you suggest? I want to be able to go back 2-3 weeks.
What type of job Custom, Rotation, or GFS?

I used a 7 day rotation with 1 full and 6 differential, I didn't choose the GFS option.
So add a few more tapes, one should be all that is needed but two more for "just in case" is recommended. Just do a Quick Erase Plus on the tapes and ARCserve will use then as/if needed.

Sounds great. I really appreciate it. You never mentioned if I should use append or overwrite?
That is really not for me to say. It depends on your setup, the value of data that changes daily, the value of having the history of tapes to fall back on in case of an emergency.

In general I take a conservative approach and as a rule recommend using a different tape for each day for those with normal backup needs.
