Read mac drive in Windows

Hi

I am trying to copy the files off a mac hard drive onto my windows machine
Is there any freeware etc that enables this
When you plug the drive in Windows tries to initialize it. What would this do to the data. Is it dangerous

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The best way to transfer data between mac and pc is trough a Pendrive or external hardisk. Be sure it is formated in FAT32 wich is compatible with both of the systems.

first off initializing the drive in windows should be the same as formatting the drive ( all data will be lost). The easiest way to be able to transfer the files over from the mac box to the windows box would be to go under the network settings and either enable file sharing or enable the ftp server.

If you go the route of ftp server here is a free ftp client for windows. http://www.coreftp.com/

You need aditional configuration to share file between PCs and Macs.
A external hardrive or USB is the best option, or sending the files trough e-mail... depends on the quantity/size.
