Why will my address bar work only sometimes?

The problem I'm having is, When I type within my address bar of IE7, and then hit enter, it goes no where.  Sometimes I can hit enter and it goes right away, other times it goes a few seconds later.  The problem surely has something to do with IE.  I have no spyware adware and/or viruses.  The PC works fine with every other aspect.  I'm running Vista Business that is joined to a domain.  There are no GPO's in effect.  There are multiple other machines on the network, this one however is the only one with this issue.  Most of the time I can restart IE and it will start to work again.  Occasionally I'll have to reboot the PC though.  Thanks in advance.

GTKINC,

By chance is a page still loading in the browser as you are trying to enter and go to the other address?  The only thing I can think of now that fits the situation you described is IE's habit of taking the focus away from the address bar as a page loads.  Other programs starting or running may do this too.  Timed right it would make it so IE's address bar basically never knows you press Enter because the focus of the program (i.e. the cursor) or the focus of Windows (i.e. the active window) has moved.

I don't know of a fix for this besides just being informed of the cause and aware of what the browser or computer is doing.  You can't really stop either from doing what it is "suppose" to do.  However proper timing can help you avoid it if this is the cause.  Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

Do you have third party toolbars installed?  Sometimes these things can cause strange problems like this.  If so, try uninstalling the browser extras.  It it turns out they are not the cause you can always reinstall them.

The page is completely loaded.  Its as if when i hit enter to go to the next site, nothing happens.  On a side note, i can type in the search box that's integrated into IE and things work fine.  No 3rd party toolbars are installed.

can you install firefox and see if the issue still happens, it may not be browser specific.  if this does not happen in mozilla.

have you tried to restore ie to is default settings

Start Internet Explorer 7.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.

4. In the Rest Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

Reset everything and it still does it occasionally.  What I did notice is that if I wait a bit (10 to 60 sec) the browser will eventually load the page.  Its almost like a delayed reaction.

Do you mean wait after you type the new address and press Enter or wait a minute (while the page loads) before typing something?  If the later then it sounds like what I was trying to point out in my first comment (http:#20799679).  Even though the page may seem loaded IE is still working on parts and that can affect the "focus" of IE.

is it going through a proxy server, or do you have detect settings automatically, if yes both or one could b ethe problem, or your internet connection may be slow and cant load all the information quickly.
