There's some options available to you. If you can use Dos commands, you can go Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt, in Dos go to the directory where the files are and type "rename *.JPG *.jpg" (without the quotes).

You can use the program I mention, Irfanview, launch the program, then press the B key. A batch conversion screen will pop up. Navigate to the directory where all your .JPG files are located, and add your files to the list to be acted on, then select the radio button for batch rename, and enter your renaming options.

There are a number of approaches you can take. First of all, how are you moving your photos from the camera to your computer? Just copying the images in File Explorer, or are you using some camera software which does it for you?

I recommend a program called IrfanView ( It includes a batch renamer which will allow you to easily rename large numbers of files, but also allows you manipulate your images, convert them between file types, rotate them, etc.

If you have any difficulty using it, let me know.
