Booting from a CD / USB flash media

Hi,

Can I boot from a read only CD/DVD/Flash media, to run OS and some applications, for example Word, Excel, etc? Basically, do I need a HDD to use a computer?

Regards,
Doru

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes you can do that, but it's fairly complicated. Do a google search for BartPE or Ultimate Boot CD and that should point you in the right direction

Without using BartPE, it is supposedly impossible, but if you are daring enough to try.....

This is NOT a BartPE install, but a Full XP installation
