tools to clean all the files from hard disk after to have uninstalled a program.

Hello,

surfing through the files into the folders of Vista (users / Window / ProgramData / ,i've seen that there are a lot of files that shouldn't be there,because they belong to programs already uninstalled. I know that the best apps to clean the registry is cclean,but i don't know what to use to clean the hard disk from obsolete/old files.

For cleaning out old files, you can start by going to Program Files and deleting the folders for any apps you know aren't there. jv16PowerTools  is a good tool for this. Although the current version is 2007, I prefer the 2006 version of the application, which you can find here:

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=jv16

The application comes with an extensive manual in .PDF format. Best to read it before delving into anything with which you're unfamiliar.

This tool will also clear the registry and perform several other maintenance services.

I think you'd need to act preemptively using something like Symantec's Norton Uninstall Deluxe, which monitors installs so it knows exactly what to clean up later.

old and obsolete files are not only in Program Files but in users folder too and i can't delete them manually,because i don't know exactly where they are.

It doesn't really matter.  say there is APP-X -- go to Program files with windows explorer then --

1/ wipe out APP-X directory and all under it with explorer under Program files
2.  Go to common files under program files -- if any folders there for APP-X, delete them too.
3.  go to C:\Documents and Settings\user-name\Application Data  and look for a folder there relating to APP-X, and delete it entirely.  Then go to
4.  C:\Documents and Settings\user-name\Local Settings\Temp   and delete EVERYTHING in that folder.

Other than the odd file in windows/system32, there is nothing left of the application -- that will clean it out.

The only sticking point is entries in the registry, but if you got rid of them, and do above, it is cleansed !!

If the profiles are for users who no longer log on to the computer, you can delete them altogether. To do that, reboot the computer, and log on as an administrator. Right-click My Computer. Select Properties | Advanced (tab). Under User Profiles, click the Settings button. Highlight the profile you want to remove and click the Delete button.

scrathcyboy: it's not so easy like you say : for example in common files there are folders that i don't know if they are useful or not,like :

DESIGNER ---> inside it there is one only file : MSADDNDR.DLL
Elecard ---> it's empty
Lencom ---> inside it there are 3 files : LLUpdateCTRL.tlb ; VersionVerifier.ocx ; VersionVerifier.tlb
NSV ---> it's empty
PX Storage Engine --> what is this ?
Services ---> inside it there is one only file : verisign.bmp
Symantec Shared ---> it's empty
Synacast ----> what is this ?
xing shared ---> what is this ?

and Documents and Settings folder is locked and is 0 kb big. (i'm using vista,all users files are located on users folder)

for this reason i'm still looking for an easy apps to reach my goal in an automatic way.

One way to act pre-emptively after-the-fact is to procure and install Norton Uninstall Deluxe and have it start monitoring; reinstall the program you want to get totally rid of; stop the Uninstall Deluxe monitoring; now have Uninstall Deluxe clean out the offending program - it'll get all the files that were installed, AND all the registry entries associated with it.

If there is ANY files or folders in a directory under CommonFiles that relates to the program, WIPE THEM ALL OUT.  Just the ones relating to the program.

To get to the DAS directory, you need ADMIN login.
