Exchange mail 2003 wont forward to gmail account

I am running sbs 2003 premium. My exchange mailbox account user is unable to forward mail in their mailbox to a gmail acount.
I have created a Contact object inSBS users with the smtp address of gmail account.
I have gone into user properties and in exchange general amended delivery to this account and also keep a copy in my mailbox.
I have gone to exchange system manager/global settings and made sute allow automatic forwarding is hecked.

YET THE MAIL IS NOT FORWARDING TO THE GMAIL ACCOUNT?

How can i do this and also forward to more than one external account?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

By default automatic replies, automatic forwards and Out of Office to Internet recipients are disabled in Exchange 2000 Server and in Exchange Server 2003.

See Microsoft's Knowledge base article 266166 for further details
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266166/en-us

Once enabled it should then work.

The step by step instructions for forwarding to an external account can be found at the following website.

Have you check SMTP logs to see what happened when your server tries to send messages to GMAIL?  This is a good place to start - it is much easier to diagnose problem when you have the log results.

Is your server/IP have good standing?  Namely, is your IP/domain blacklisted?  Good to check this too

Finally, if you want to send to more than one external acct, create distribution group, add external contacts in that group. Messages sent to the distribution group will be forward to all group's members.

Sorry I missed the last line when reading your problem

The logs are normally stored at

%windir%\system32\Logfiles

Are you able send to gmail? (Without implementing the forwarding)
Are the messages being sent to gamil being filtered and placed in the "Spam" folder?
