IIS websites on SBS intranet

Hello,

I have problem in that all my monitoring, backup IIS stuff has stopped working and presents a resource cannot be found error.

I think its because ive added a new website to the iis so i can test websites that im building locally.

As it stands from within the network if i type 10.0.0.1 (ip of sbs server) im am diverted to my new website. I would prefer to be able to http://intranet for example to access the website?

How can i set this up and also return the companyweb and other sbs components back to their default website address settings?

I should also mention if i type http://companyweb in the address bar it asks me to download and save a file called companyweb. eek i dunno what ive done !

Many thanks,
AR

Well, what settings did you change?  Did you back up the IIS Metabase before you added this new site?

How different does your IIS configuration look from the one below?

ok only difference 1-4 is

microsoft sharepoint administration port is 5049 opposed to yours which is 8109.
And im guessing this makes no difference.

Where you have ident 5 and 6 i only one further entry and it appears as below:

Intranet | 599050834 | running |  | all unassigned | 80 |  |  |

I restarted IIS and tryed http://companyweb

It still prompted me to download a file called companyweb which is 2.13mb.

Cheers

-
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

Any ideas?

Also i just tryed to force start default website and got the error:

IIS Manager.

IIS was unable to start the site. Another site may already be using the port you configured for this site. Please select an unused port for this site.

Also now when i type http://10.0.0.1 it takes me the default website instead of my own as i have changed the intranet site port to 8059.

And the companyweb site is still trying to download.

Any ideas?

The problem is that you can't add another web site on port 80 without using a host header.  If you want to add "intranet" and have it accessible via http://intranet, then you need to add a host header of "intranet" to that site.

You do this by clicking the "advanced" button next to the port assignments of the site properties.  Look at the companyweb properties for an example.

You'll also need to add a CNAME record in your DNS Forward Lookup Zone.  Again, look at the companyweb entry for an example there.

"Can you show me what the companyweb cname should look like?"

Are you saying that the CNAME entry for compnayweb is missing from your forward lookup zone in DNS?

If so, just create a new CNAME record called "companyweb" and point it to servername.domain.local.  Then do the same for "intranet".
