Backup Exec 10d not Seeing Exchange 2003 Information store from Drop Down Menu

I have a very strainge problem. I'm the new administrator at my company. They are using Backup Exec 10d on a Windows 2003 Standard SP1 platform. They are also running Exchange 2003 Standard. When I go to the backup selection drop down menu the Exchange Information Store, Mailbox and Public folder options are all missing. The Exchange server is working fine. The Backup Agent on the mail server is working. ON the media server I made sure the Enable Restricted Access is enabled via the BEUtility yet the information store, mailboxdes and plublic folders are still missing. Please help

Your agent should run under a user account that is delegated full exchange server administrator role. The administrator of the domain does not have full exchange administrator role by default, you must delegate him the role through ESM (right click on your organization name---->choose delegate----> choose the user account---->exchange full administrator). On the target server (you exchange server), through control panel, administrative tool, services, configure the backup agent to run as administrator (under the logon tab) enter administrator and his password.
The best thing to do, is to create a unique user with a mailbox on the exchange server, assigining hime the password never expires and delegating him the Exchange full administartor role, as well as giving him the logon locally and logon as service permissions on every single server that backup exec will backup. In this case you run the Remote backup agent under the unique username.

You are logged in as who? Who is the serbvice account for Backup Exec? Does he have send as permissions? Is him delegated exchange administrator role?

I'm logged into the server as domain admin. The BE Remote agent on my exchange server is running under the local system account

Hi,

Is your version of Backup Exec 10d licensed with the advanced open file backup option?

Jason WatkinsIT Project LeaderCommented:
If you have updated BackupExec at some time, then the agents should be updated as well.

Make sure your backup exec agent account has read/write to the directory exchange resides.

Tried that did not work...The server account on the BE server is running under a domain admin account the agent on the Exchange server is under the locatl system account

Sure, have to cover the bases.  I recall having issues with Backup Exec and SBS while trying to backup Exchange.  I was able to get only the message store and nothing else.

Has your copy of Backup Exec ever been able to copy the exchange data?

I don't know..I was going through the old BE logs and job setups that were left under the old admin and I'm seeing the INformation store listed??? The Exchang Agent is installed on the media server. This doesn't make any sence..

The agent should only be installed on the machines that are to be backed up by backup exec.  He/She could have manually specified a path in a backup exec job to cover the exchange directory.  That would not be the best way to do it, but at least you would have the data.

I just check and the admin account I'm using already is set as Full admin rights in ESM. There is something that I just found though. IN the backup drop down menu on my server only the admin shares are showing up and that it not even the system state backup selection for any of ther servers is showing up. What is going on here???????
