Density adjustment for HP Laserjet 2200D

For an HP Laserjet 2200D you're supposed to be able to set the density, but I find no HP configuration utility to do so. Just update driver, PCL 6, also downloaded driver for PCL 5E. Neither came with that small utility which, allegedly, has a slider to allow you to adjust the density of the printing. Only settings software allows are 600 DPI and  ProRes 1200 (180 lpi). No sign of a configuration utility on Hp Website and good luck gettting to their tech support. Checked the CD that came with the printer; found no such utility on that either. I just want to make the print a little darker. Looks the same under 600 DPI and 180 lpi, still too light.

You should be able to do this through the HP LJ Device Configuration in the HP Printer (Printer properties) or if you are using a jet card through HP Web Jet Admin.  The default setting is '3' which is what you are looking for in the config page.

Also remember to check that Economode is off - I know it sounds obvious but sometimes it gets missed.

I don't have the Device Configuration Utility. It's not on my HD and did not come with the updated drive install package I shagged from HP's site. That's the problem. Also can't find the utility on the original install disk that came with the printer. Any idea where I can get it, or if it is on the original install disk that came with the printer, how do I pick it off?

It should be on the disk already but I know it is difficult to identify as a separate entity.  Have you looked through the intructions for installing it at the end of the page I linked to?
