Best way to bring popup window into focus for both Firefox and IE

Hi I know this seems pretty basic, but I cannot figure out how to get a popup window that has been minimized back in focus so it appears on top of all other browser windows in firefox (im testing with firefox 2)

I've tried window.focus()
self.focus()
self.opener.focus() etc and none of them work in Firefox?

They work in IE 7, IE6.  Whats the deal with Firefox?

Works for me once I make FF open new windows in a new window

<script>
var w=null;
</script>
<a href="http://www.google.com/" onClick="w=window.open(this.href,'_blank'); return false">google</a><br/>
<a href="#" onClick="if (w) w.focus(); return false">focus</a>

The window itself cannot bring itself from minimised to restored if that is what you want.

Good thing too. Don't want all those annoying ads decide to focus my browser if I minimise it

So you are telling me this is not valid in Firefox?

<body onLoad="window.focus()">

All I simply want to do is bring a popup spawned using window.open to focus if a user clicks on the same link that was used to spawn it in the first place. This is in case they minimze the window versus closing it.

No I am telling you that firefox will IGNORE a focus command if the window is minimised.

You can't even do an alert in the window - the alert will show but the page will not restore.

The command window.focus() will work if the window is not in focus but not if the window is minimised.

Sorry..
