VPN Client

Hello,

When connecting to a LAN and VPN on the same PC, is there any prioritizing that takes place? For example how does TCP know which DNS server to query first when both connections have DNS entries?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Normally, the LAN Connection has more priority than the Remote Access Connection and thus, DNS should be the same. I have personally run into issues where I am trying to ping a machine on VPN site but I get a totally different response from the LAN DNS as it has the same resource\Host A created in it as the VPN Resource. You can change priority of these interfaces from the Network Connection Window. Click on Advance Tab and then 'Advance Settings'. You will see your LAN and Remote Access Connection listed there with the option of changing their order.
