Can't open Peachtree 2008 over a VPN but I can see the files.

We are using Peachtree 2008 for Distribution and all operating systems are Windows XP Pro over a VPN. The VPN connects to the files needed but when you try to open Peachtree you get the error that the database is not available.

Peachtree needs a UNC pointer to company file. So add an entry for the IP address to the remote system hosting Peachtree in the client's hosts file and then use a UNC expression to connect to the remote company file (i.e.:\\servername\sharename\companyfile).

Another option you might want to consider is setting up a Terminal Server at the main office where the Peachtree server is found and having the remote user's use RDC (Remote Desktop Client) to login to the TS server and access the Peachtree client application that way. As an added bonus, the connection from the Peachtree client to the server would be faster as all the RDC is having to update is screen refreshes and not having to send alot of the accounting data across the VPN tunnels/clients.

ASKER

When I map to the drive I have to use an IP address or it won't connect. How can I use the server name and still get it to connect to the router?
You need to make sure NetBIOS is enabled on the server's NIC as well as the workstation NIC. Also, if you are connecting via a VPN tunnel, you need to see if your router allows for NetBIOS pass-through.
The router does and the NetBIOS is enabled on the server and workstations. I have just tried to reload Peachtree to see if there was a problem and now it won't reload. Getting SDK errors! This is driving me mad at this point. One machine will connect and show the company on the H: drive but won't connect to it. Just hangs up. Any suggestions?
