Can't Access MS CRM 4.0 Outlook Client From Outside The Network

I installed Outlook in IFD mode. When installing offsite, I get this error
"the request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized" with I select the "My
Company" option. If I select "An Online Service Provider", I get prompted for
credentials, but it works. Is there a way to get this error resolved? I have
tried the forcing of NTLM and the NTLMForSQLRSServer registry edit.

Any suggestions?

Did you install the CRM Server in IFD Mode, i.e do you get a sign in page is you browse to it via internet explorer from outside? If this is the case then Online Service Provider would be the correct option for your Outlook installation. Otherwise you would need to access CRM on your local subnet for the Company mode to work, and if needing access from outside would need to establish a VPN connection.

I was able to get this working without VPN. I installed using IFD and set the correct DNS entries
