why is edgetransport.exe running...It is not intalled!

I am going through task man on my exchange 2007 server, and have noticed that edgetransport.exe is using several hundred mb of memory.

The weird thing is that I did not install the edge transport server on this box...nor am i using it in my organization.

Any thoughts as to why this is running?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This may seem pretty strange I know I thought so but this is normal. This process runs on the Hub transport server also.

Managing Shared Transport Database Configuration Options

"EdgeTransport.exe and MSExchangeTransport.exe are the executable files that are used by the Microsoft Exchange Transport service. This service runs on every Hub Transport server or Edge Transport server"
