Can't log in when Password is about to expire

Users  in my organization can not connect to exchange or log into sharepoint when their password is about to expire.  I'm not sure whether the problem is in IIS or Active directory for this, or somewhere else.  One weird thing is the user gets page could not be displayed after trying to log into sharepoint but if they refresh the page it logs them right in.  It has something to do with password expiration but I have no idea where to look for this.  Any thoughts?

how close to password expiration does the person have to be before they start having issues?

as soon as they hit that 15 day mark where it starts warning you when you login.  Thats when the issue starts.

when a user has the problem, what is showing in the windows event viewer log?  i'd check both the web front end, and the domain controller logs

also, check the sharepoint logs at the time of the problem (usually Event Viewer has more helpful info... but it wouldnt hurt to check sharepoint logs).

another idea is to enable IIS logging and check for errors there...

basically, i think your first step is to get an error of some kind so that you can narrow down the issue.
