bandwidth detection

i want to my javascript or flash detect user internet speed and play file according to that. may be three slot low, mid and high res videos

i m using jw player. i found some help on internet but didn't work. can somebody make a quick example and post it here. thanks

Javascript won't be much help with this.  The script should actually be on the server.  Take a look at the info and script at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashcom/articles/flvideo_bandwidth.html .

i don't have server...
can we do with java script and play file according to that..

i mean download 20kb image in background and check speed and according to that play flv file ?

Use a preloader, check the amount of bytes loaded and play accordingly.
I guess that should be a safe way to play in any system bandwidth.

you can use the existing component from the component library or you can code too...
check on for getbytesloaded... gettotalbytes or relevant.. you can google for some quick preloaders too.
