Speed of Site to Site VPN between Ireland and USA

I have a 20MB line to the Internet in work in Ireland and we have an office on the East Coast of USA with a T1 1.5MB Line.  We have a Site to Site VPN setup between sites which on the face of it seems slow The hardware involved is a sonciwall pro 3060 in ireland and a Cisco PIX in USA.  I realise that the VPN has overheads etc but i was wondering if there is any calculation that i can preform to prove that the bottleneck is the 1.5MB line...  Ive done testing between sites and have seen that whn i decrease the MTU on both side to 1430 i am gettin improvements but it is still taking me 28 minutes to move a 102 MB File from one site to another over the VPN.  Any Help is greatly appreciated

You could try IxChariot. Best tool I know to test different types off traffic, and you have a very good reporting tool. The trial version is fully functional as far as I know.

Have you looked at WAN accelerators? On connections like yours, latency is the absolute killer when it comes to performance. Look into Juniper WXC 250/500 or similar.
