Where is the field Recipients added to a mail? Juicy points for the taking!!

Hi,

I've been searching almost everywhere in the Notes mail templates for R6 and R7, but I cannot find the field Recipients in the Memo-form. When I look in the Sent-view, the field is indeed set in a message. I already used DDSearch, to no avail. Very strange, it must be a readers block...

I really like to know where Recipients is set in a mail document!!  HELP!!

I always thought that the recipients field is calculated by the server (client in some cases) when document is submited/sent

That's possible, and it's one path I was already following. The field is also created when I select the Island location and the mail is put in the local mail.box. Maybe the "Display send mail dialog box" sequence is important, it could force these fields to be generated. Checking again...

The recipients field would be generated even without "Display send mail dialog box" sequence when field "MailOptions=1" is present in document

It's not related to mail.box:
If you're using mail on local in an island connection (to be sent through domino), it's already there in the sent-folder! Mail.box and the server had no change to intervene!
Still investigating....

Can't find it either, using design synopsis on forms, subforms and libs. I'll try later (office) using Teamstudio Analyzer.
I have the impression that this is handled is Notes' code itself.... like ReturnReceipt handling. I ran into some suspicious code in the reservation db as well....

It is handled either by server or by client. i guess it is depending on the location of the mail. It is part of the core functionality, not a design code. therefore any form in any apps that have "mailoptions=1" or "Display send mail dialog box" would get "recipients" when mailed?

I'm inclined to accept fgrushevsky's explication. Someone requested that mails could be sent with the name of a different user as sender. Someone else made the modifications in a separate mail template, and we had to discover for ourselves how it was done. The code copies a mail document directly into mail.box, bypassing all the normal routing, therefore also bypassing the creation of several special fields. Unfortunately, Recipients was the missing field that was absolutely required to route the mail.

I'll test some more, but I think fgrushevsky almost doubled his points here today. Thanks!

Sounds quite familiar
We also have in-house apps that sends mails (company-wide announcements)  with the name of a different user as a sender. It is accomplished by placing messages directly into mail.box.  We also found that recipients field must be present, so the application generates it based on the sendto, copyto etc

Thanks a lot! Just a suggestion: can you update your EE-profile, just for the curious amongst us? ;-)

Actually, this is always calculated by the lcient, not the server (unless the message is generated from teh server to begin with, e.g., an agent or a webmail session). Whatever drops a message into mail.box has to gen these values. It is like the difference between SMTP mail envelope and SMTP mail headers.
