How to sync ACT database with on-site database and off-site staff

I have ACT 2007 5 user software. I need to know if it is possible to install ACT to a main server which will allow my users to access the database between them, and also allow a user to go off site with a laptop and be able to access the same data and then sync the data when they come back to the office?

Any help is most appreciated,

Thanks

Yes, this is possible. With only five users you don't need to worry too much about running an SQL Server version so basically install the Act! application on a centrally accessible machine. Create the database you want them to share and under the Tools|Database Management select Share Database.

Check that windows is sharing the folder containing the Act database files then you can point office based users at that file directly through the windows share (Just File|Open browse to the share on the central machine and find then open the Act! database file), you'll want to create a username and password for each user.

For the remote user, they will need to synchronise their database which means you need to create a remote database on the main machine (youl;ll see the details in the supplied online manual but basically you use the Tools|Synchonisation Panel - Create Remote Database), the remote user will then need to restore the database  (File|Restore|Database then select Unpack and Restore Remote Database) and provide the file (.Zip) that the create remote built.

This will then make a local copy of the data which will be accessible when out of the office. The user will need to synchronise periodically to keep it up to date.

Assuming it's not the Premium build, this is the way to set up sync to a laptop user - http://tinyurl.com/yvncog
