What are the ramifications of changing binding order on laptops? (VNC connection by PC name)

I'm using UltraVNC with single-click to deploy a basic little remote connectivity application. I have my VNC executable set with the address of my PC Name for connections over the network. When people are connecting who are on our corporate network, using "mymachine" works just fine. However, when they tunnel on the VPN, by default it is resolving using their primary NIC.

My question is: What, if any, are the negative ramifications of changing the binding order so that the Remote Access Connections are checked first?

I would change my image to accommodate this change and I'd hate to send a bunch of PC out with a faulty setup. If anyone has a suggestion for what I'm trying to do that's completely outside of the box, I'm open to them.

That is actually recommended procedure with a VPN. This way the VPN will be checked first and if not connected it will skip to the next adapter in the binding order.

Keep in mind, for other reasons, name resolution often does not work over a VPN. If you need help with that let us know, but often the best method is just use the IP.
Other solutions are the LMHosts file, WINS servers, and properly configured DNS.

Thank you very much. I'll have to look into the other options you provided. I chose computer name for this only because my IP isn't static.

I will change the binding order immediately on my images!
