Can't find drivers for reformatted PC.

I reformatted an HP Compaq tower with Windows XP SP2.  The Ethernet, video and audio drivers were not installed.  These are all part of the motherboard on the PC.  I had to install an ethernet PCI card just to get online but could still not find the right drivers.  I tried letting the system search online through device manager, searched hp's site and did a google search which I never have luck with.

The PC is small black tower that says HP Compaq on the front.  It has no other markings/stickers on the case or inside the case.  The few stickers that are on it are faded and I can't read what they say.  Any ideas on how I can find out what the drivers should be?

Thanks.

sparkmaker - So the SIW tool will identify the hardware and give me the data necessary to locate a driver for it online?

2PiFL - I've tried, but I can't identify the model.  The only thing I can find on it says HP Compaq and under that I could only find current systems on HP's site.  This PC must be 3-4 years old.
Did you look on the bottom of the unit? There may be a sticker there that gives you the necessary model information. And yes, SIW will identify the hardware and give you the data necessary to locate a driver for it online.

Yeah.  I looked all over that box.  I found what I think is a partial id number but wasn't able to get much out of it.  It started USH but the next few numbers are missing and then there is a 300.  I'll give the SIW a try tomorrow.

I have SIW installed and I'm looking at the 3 items that are not recognized.  Ethernet, Video and Audio.  SIW provides a lot of good info.  What do I need to use in order to google search for the drivers?

Can you provide the motherboard information and tell us whether the video, audio, etc. are onboard?

How were you able to determine that?

I used a combo of answers but all the info was great.

Sparkmaker - the BIOS check gave me the model number and I was able to get most of the drivers.  the SIW gave me the info for souseran to use to find out what the ethernet was.

Souseran - thanks for the info.  I've downloaded the driver.
@ vsllc:,

You asked:

> How were you able to determine that?

As an example, look at this line in your SIW log.

Device ID      PCI\VEN_8086DEV_2562SUBSYS_217914A4REV_03\313C0B0C5010

Go to http://www.pcidatabase.com/

In the Vendor Search: box, enter the numbers after VEN_ For instance, enter 8086

Press the Search button, and on the next screen, you will learn that this vendor is Intel

Or, on the first page, in the Device Search: box, enter the numbers after DEV_ For instance, enter 2562

On the next screen, you will have a list of possible devices. However, it's pretty simple to review the list and find the one that states:

0x2562      Integrated Graphics Device      0x8086      Intel

Combine that information with this bit from your SIW log:

Description      Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

And you can deduce that this is probably an Intel integrated graphics controller on your motherboard.

Thanks for the points. Glad the system is working now.
