WAV Files with Blackberry Exchange Server 4.1.0.38

Blackberry Exchange Server 4.1.0.38

Two types of phones:

Nextel 7100i
Verizon Pearl

Office voicemail converts to wav and emails user.  Is there anyway to listen to the wav file on either of these phones without upgrading the BES software.  BES is working and I do ot want to monkey with it if I do not have to.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The ability to play wav is on the device itself not the server.
I noticed I just bought an 8830 for one of my users and this unit has the ability to play wavs were my 8703 doesnt.
This tell me its device specific not blackberry server specific.

I havent used a pearl but my assumption would be if you get an email with a wav attachment open the attachment like you would any other attachment

You need version 4.1 sp 2 for the BES

In order to get WAV attachments from a Blackberry server you need to update the server.  The support was added in BES 4.1 Service Pack 3 but you should update to Service Pack 4.  To download service pack 4 for your version of BES click on this link below:

http://www.blackberryforums.com.au/forums/blackberry-announcements/863-bes-4-1-service-pack-4-exchange.html

When you install this service pack ensure you are logged on as the Blackberry service account which is normally called BESadmin.  After the server reboots you need to log back on as BESadmin again as it will finalize the install.

Now that the server is able to handle WAV attachments and device running compatible firmware can open these files.  e.g. The 7100 wont open them but the Pearl defiantly can.

I read that but I do not think it is my issue.  Has something to do with the handheld.  I have enabled wav file attachments in the BES.  If I copy the wav file to the pearl it does not play either.  i copied other wav files and they played fine (using media manager).  Voicemail software is callegra callware.

Just to make it more fun they do not play when I email them.

Your BES won't handle WAV files correctly if you do not have the correct service pack.  Apart from the WAV issues you are missing out on many new features so SP4 is the way to go.

Can I apply it right over the top of 4.1.0.38?  Do I need to reconfigure it after I apply?

Gary CutriData & Communications SpecialistCommented:
All you need to to is log on as you BlackBerry service account (e.g. BESadmin) and run the update over the top.  It will require one restart and then to be logged back on as the service account again to complete the install.

P.S. You don't need to configure anything it will just work.  You will notice a few changes in the Blackberry Manager and basic features light right clicking a user has been returned.

There are a bunch of SP's and maint releases online.  Should i start with SP4 and then apply the 3 maint release or do I have to start at SP2?

You just run the exe for the 4.1.2 software no need to upgrade or add the other patches.
