Methods of clearing space on the C:\ drive.

I do the following on my servers to create space.
- move page file
- delprof un-needed profiles
- delete temp internet files and temp files.
Is there other files that can safely be deleted i.e. $ntuninstall directories for patches
Other settings to change to reclaim space...

search for log files if you have no need of them.  Check into the windows directory, look for $NTUninstallblah blah blah...  If you have any of the patches which you will want to remove, do not delete the related files... but if your patches are good... then go for it.. also. rt click on the recycke bin, and change the setting from 10 percent which worked great for when drives wrer not so big to 2%

Checked where the paging file is?
I would also recommend moving the print spooler onto a different drive. If you do quite a bit of printing this can build up. We have had alot of problems with space on the C drive in the past, I think we have got pretty much nothing on there now. If you running symantec antivirus check for log files and same with veritas/symantec backup exec.

Hope this helps

WinDirStat's home is http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/

I love this program, you can use it to scan local or remote drives/folders.. and it give a nice graphic view of your disk.. making it easy to see folders/files that are taking up a lot of space..

You can also set it up to show diffent colours for different file types..

on my screen shot. blue is movies/ red is EXE and the light blue is the page file..

i have tried lots of diddent disk tools but i still like this one the best by far..

dgo to documents and settings and go to every user profile generated on it and go to local settings on every one and after that you will find temp folder containing many rubbish delete all filoes on every temp folder and you will free good space and you also try to delte the files in the temp folder in the windows folder and you can also delete only the files in the installer folder in the windows directory after that you will find gigas free

oh you can use group policies to make sure that temp files in usr profiles get delete when they log off. and that they can never go above a cirtian size. that will help automat what Kmotaweh is sugesting

I have a GP file to import if you want this..

PS user profiles will only be a probelm is you ahve lots of people logging on to the server localy. or creating accounts on it..

So things like citrix servers and such like..

exchange/sql/file servers should not get this problem.. (unless of course members of the IT unit are logging on and filling up there own profiles)
