Citrix MetaFrame Alternative

I have sampled a Citrix Metaframe setup and would like a similar setup and am interested in alternatives.

If you have some suggestions or information relating to multi-user server/client environments I would apreciate your feedback.

Also how does Citrix compare to VPN?

A portion of his answer with good links for alternatives:

VPN is acceptable for a few users.  You could even just use RDP over Terminal Server if you don't mind publishing an entire desktop.  Citrix gives you seamless windows, a web interface, and some more control over the users environment.
If you are patient you can wait a little longer for Server 2008 which has just about every feature a lightweight Citrix user wants.

Ill wait for bigger budget or server 2008, whichever comes first.

Thanks for your time
