It is possible/recommended to import a config file from a X700 to a X750e Watchguard Firebox?

We recently bought a Watchguard X750E Core series Firebox. We currently have a X700 firebox which we use for Internet access, Branch Office VPN and Mobile VPN. Is it possible/ recommended to copy the configuration file from the X700 to the X750e firebox ?  This would save us alot of work and make sure we had all the correct settings.

If you are using the same WSM/WFS version then you can freely take the config from Z700 and load it on X750e; please note that flash image can be hardware specific but the general config is not. If the software version is same then for the device it would not know if it from hard disk or you created using policy manager from scratch.

If you are running different versions of software then you need to check if the upgrade path is supported. For eg, if you wish to upgrade from 7.4 to 9.1 then I think you might run in some problems (cannot say for sure if you would).

The information regarding VPN, if it is manual VPN then they would get transferred; if you are using VPN manager or management server then the configuration file would not hold all the details. The flash image contains those information; which I would not suggest putting from one hardware box to another.

Thank you.

If you are running WFS 7.x on your 700 then you will need to rebuild your config from scratch. Fireware is configured completely different with specific rulesfor each direction for a protocol, as opposed to the incoming and outgoing tabs on WFS.
