mac os 10.4 to windows connection problem

I have a server running mac os 10.4 and am trying to set it up so that my windows machines can see it. I seem to have the settings correct. I can attach to the server on my windows machine. If I try a few minutes later, it won't even see it. If I go into the os 10.4, change a setting, then I can see it from my window machine for a while again. What is wrong?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

- What are the steps that you take to connect to your Xserve? i.e. are you entering the UNC path; \\serverName\shareName or are you trying to browse to the server via Windows Network neighbourhood?

- Is the Xserve on the same subnet as the client computers?
