vpn coonection does not recognize my server name, only the ip address

I am trying to connect to my server via VPN and remote desktop, I can connect to the vpn using the server IP address but the remote desktop will not recognize my server name only the IP address

This is because you are using your DNS server not the DNS server at the other end of the tunnel. You can add an entry to your HOSTS file that can map the hostname to the IP.
