Computer Automatically Restarts After Shutdown

Vista Home Premium O/S restarts after shutdown with power adapater, not on battery.  I checked BIOS Power settings (none), checked Power Options (set everything to shudown where possible, changed HKLM settings for power off to 1.  Only does this with power adapter installed.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sound like an error is occuring on shutdown that's causing a restart - Right click on COMPUTER, select PROPRTIES, ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS and under STARTUP and RECOVERY select SETTINGS. untick automatically restart. That should allow you to see the error. Also look in the event log. The event viewer is in Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer->Windows Logs->System Log

Had previously unchecked the 'automatically restart' box, but didn't check the logs.  Checked the logs, but didn't find anything out of the ordinary...all information type events.  I'm still searching for a solution.  Thank you to date for your reply.

1) Get the latest BIOS
2) install the Visboot program to see the progress of the boot up. Maybe it will show something.

3) Get the latest drivers for the laptop itself. One of the battery related utils may not be working properly.

I hope this helps !
