Adobe Acrobat doesn't work

I have one machine that refuses to open Adobe Acrobat.  I've tried version 6 which i have a disk.  I've downloaded the latest off of Adobe (8).  I install and uninstall and repair in add/remove.  I've used a registry cleaner thinking something might be in there.  I've check the reqistry to make sure no old versions are in there.  I'm stumped.  Such a simple program always works, but not on this machine.

Hello fratzke,

When you try to open the Abode Acrobat, does the window shoot down to the taskbar?  Doesn't open at all and you see an hour glass?

Hi

this sounds either like permissions or version conflict.

I suspect you best need to do another uninstall and manually remove all traces. Don't use a registry cleaner, they generally are too crude and do more harm then good if things go wrong.

First follow this kb to remove Reader:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=327675

Check there is no remnants from Pro:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=322804

As you have installed 8 over the 6 install you need to remove this too:
http://www.adobe.com/go/kb400769

Reboot and log in as administrator account.
Download latest reader from: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Install. That should do it.
