How to handle attachments using Outlook 2003 or Exchange 2003

My CEO came to me with a question that I thought I had the right answer for and he comes back to tell me I'm wrong.  Is there anyway to configure either Exchange or Outlook or both to be able to save incoming email message attachments locally in which a link to the attachment will be placed in the email?  I know there are Add-Ins that can do this but I'm pretty sure this is not an embedded tool that M$ gives everyone.  If it is, I stand corrected.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm fairly certain you're correct about that one - nothing built in that is available out of the box....
I mean you could probably write some code and use a transport event sink to do so - but I'd hardly call that an embedded tool =)

(if there is - somebody let us know and I'll be using it tomorrow!)

You are correct, no way to do thru Exchange/Outlook naturally, only way is to use an add-in.

you as well as I are correct.  Here's another question though he has come back to ask me which i'm pretty sure isn't possible:  "Can Exchange be setup to make distributions and/or deletions based on key words contained in the Subject line?"  What do you guys think?

Tell him "Exchange 2007" =)

With the new Transport Rules available in Ex2007 that could be configured in less than 5 minutes.
