ibm thinkpad r61 cannot find hdd to format

Hi i have a new ibm thinkpad.  it has vista on it.  i am trying to format it and put xp on.  when i boot off the disk it cannot find the hdd.  it may need sata drivers or something?  i cant seem to find them on the website?  can anyone help please.

the model is IBM lenovo thinkpad R61 8943-A21
HDD model is HITACHI HTS541616J9SA00

You will need the sata controller driver for system board, not the drive.
Upon installation, press F6 to install driver so installation will pick up the drive.

i thought the sata drivers werent .exe.  thought i put on a floppy disc and usd when booting from xp disc?  what do i do

ive extracted it.  looks like the files im after.  thankyou
hi,
go the same problem with the same R61.
i downloaded and extracted all the driver files to my flash USB disk.

when i press the F6 key it later says that i should press the 'S' key specify where the driver is.
however, windows will not let me browse to my USB disk. it says that it could not find a floppy disk drive - which i do not have.
any ideas?
(windows does suggest to install on my USB drive????)
