Toshiba Laptop

My Toshiba laptop Satellite A135-S4467 has silver disk that appears in my task bar that states "There are new software upgrades available from Toshiba" When I double check the disk symbol I get a tips window and then an error window that says "an internal application error occurred. This program will be terminated" The top of the window states "Software Upgrades" This is an intermitten problem as the disk in my task tray will disappear when it fails to update.  I am running this system on Vista Home Premium with 1 meg of ram and 160 gig hard drive.

If this came pre-loaded with Vista, then (apparently) there is a patch:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Toshiba-Satellite-L35-S2366-Patch-for-Toshiba-Software-Upgrades-4-0-1-0R2.shtml

I'm trying to find this on Toshiba's site, but I'm having no luck.

Netman you gave me hope - I downloaded the file and ran it - Then I re-booted and the task tray had the familar silver disk icon telling me that Toshiba had updates as normal. I ran the update as usual in hopes that it would actually work this time, but no an error message "Software Upgrades" Window contained the following message "An internal application error occurred . This program will be terminated" and you select "ok" nut nothing happens except for the window closing. So the update did not fix the update task tray from appearing and not working properly. Maybe someone can now put the two together and find how to fix the silver disk from appearing in the task tray or make it work properly. Thanks for the help but stll have original problem described above.

Interesting....

Personally, I would uninstall it.  All it does is update any Toshiba-specific components.  In my experience with Toshiba, there are seldom any updates beyond the released software.  In the 4 years I've had my Toshiba they've updated one Toshiba-specific app.

The drivers also seldom change so you could look manually a few times a year.

How do I uninstall it?  Will I loose anything else if swupdate.exe is not working. The swupdate.exe is what runs when I double click on the silver disk in the task tray.

Thanks

In Control Panel>Programs and Features.

There is likely an extry for Toshiba Updates (or similar).

A solution to uninstall is not really a true fix when you are losing part of Toshiba update service but at least the silver disk in the task bar area is gone.
