"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

SiSoftware Sandra Lite XII give many different bench marks.. not just for servers but a nice program to learn about lots of different bench marks..

however if you want to betesting things like SQL servers or exchange you need to find tools dedicated to jsut test these system..

SiSoftware Sandra Lite  will do a nice generaly disk tesk, for speed and i/o operations. but of course it is not as good as a pure disk system testing tool.

but with it you will find a test for every part of the system. cpu/memory/sound/video/disk/network

and it also has a nice base line database you can compare your systems aginst, to see if you are getting expected figures..

you can install it localy on a server and run it on that one server..

i know it says dosent work on domains, but it does localy. the payed for versions alow you a single install that you can run benchmarks remotly..

sorry that was not very helpfull last post..

The Free version does not allow you to run bench marks remotly.. but you can install it on a server connected to a domain and run the bench marks on that system...

the paid for versions alow you to have a central consol and run benchmarks on remote system..

but the free version has a lot of funcantality. and gives you a good introduction to benchmarking. as well as a nice database of base line system.. and you can add in your own so see how simmler systems match up to each other..
