"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi. There is probably no programming language that can replace all other languages. The choice is always determined by the needs where subjective feelings also matter. However, Python i s a good language for me.

For me, it replaced Perl, shell scripting (UNIX-like systems), batch files (DOS and Windows).

The simple scripts are simple but they can grow to full featured and even to large programs with GUI.

Python is cross-platform, i.e. the programs may be written so that the same code runs on Linux, Windows, or Mac.

Have a look at and focus on the official Tutorial ( and Beginner's Guide to Python (

It also depends on whether you know some other language or not.
