"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check in "tools"->"Rules and alerts" that you do not have any rule enabled which may be deleting them as they arrive.

If you have an Exchange account as well, remember that they will not end up in your mailbox - POP3 accounts will download the emails to data file on the PC itself, and is normally access under the 'Personal Folders' list in Outlook...

You've probably already checked (if it's even there), but it's worth mentioning just in case... :)

beside my inbox there is a message which says filter applied , what is this

PeteJThomasCommented:
This is just a filtered view. You will be able to get back to a 'normal' view by clicking View, Current View, Messages.  This should also make the "Filter Applied" message go away.

Oh you need to have your 'Inbox' selected to see the 'Current View' option in the 'View' menu... This MAY be the cause of the problem! :)

i got rid of the filter, checked the views, I even sent an email and the searched for it using different search criteria but it didnt appear to be there. Would a system restore windback outlook setings to when it worked correctly, or is this just for the os.

I wasn't aware that it did work correctly - What actually changed since it stopped working? Did you install any updates etc, or anything that comes to mind as being done just before it stopped working?

Even some inocuous things that you're sure aren't related actually can end up being the cause... :)
