rundll error C0052681.dat

I have a user that just had this pop up. I believe the computer laptop has a virus as I have cleaned this computer before but what ever is ther gets cleaned and seems to come back. I have done this clean in safe mode and have turned off restore points and it cleans all so it says. The issue with this error just popped up today. Is there a possibility that the virus is still there or worse. I have tried to google the entire error and rvrn parts and have found nothing.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm not sure if this is a virus, but with the history you could look for a rootkit on the machine - there are various rootkit finders:

This one is from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Security/RootkitRevealer.mspx

Blacklight from F-secure:

http://www.f-secure.com/security_center/

Many others are out there as well -these two are my favs.

You may be talking about this trojan:
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2003-032012-2627-99&tabid=2
Link includes removal instructions.

I'd also suggest downloading and installing CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) and running its cleanup and registry cleaner functions.  You can remove items from startup in the Startup tab within CCleaner.

If the pc is used by more than one user, I'd also suggest running Cleanup (http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?Itemid=70&id=28&option=com_content&task=view).  This does a good job of cleaning out extraneous files across multiple user ids.

It also wouldn't hurt to post a HiJackThis log back here for review.
