I found out what the problem was - thanks for your help<br />
My old Norton Anti virus was still installed somehow even after uninstalling it so I went and deleted that folder. This removed the problem and I was able to open the file all the time.

Using Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 and Microsoft Office 2007. How do I disable the virus scanner as I can not open any files because the virus scanner stops it. I have search for macro virus with the virus scanner, spybot and adaware in safe mode but can't find it.<br />
