Report Designer Setup

We have a data warehouse setup with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.  The Data Sources, Data Source Views, and the Report Models have been built.  Report Builder is functioning.  I need to be able to create reports with Visual Studio 2005 using Report Designer.  I already have Visual Studio 2005 on my workstation but can not figure out how to get Report Designer to show up when I try to create a new report.  What am I missing and how do I get it?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Report Designer is an integral part of Visual Studio 2005. To use Report Designer you have to create a Report Server or Report Server Project in Visual Studio (Report Server Project template is one of Business Intelligence Projects in New Project window) and add at least one report to this project.

Maybe I was not as clear as I should be. You work with Report Designer __USING VISUAL STUDIO__ and only in design time.

I want to be able to create reports in VS 2005 using Report Designer and publish the reports to the data warehouse.

The icons to create a Report Server Project does not show up.  That is what I am missing.  How do I get them to show up?

"Publish the reports to data warehouse"? You mean you want to create some reports _BASED ON DATA FROM DATA WAREHOUSE_? You have to create a Report Server Project, then create a report, add a dataset (-s) which can contain some queries to your data warehouse and then play with layout and finally deploy the reports to the Report Server. All can be done from Visual Studio 2005.

You have to install Business Intelligence Development Studio (it's a component of SQL Server 2005 installation) on a machine on which you want to develop your reports. This will add additional project templates to Visual Studio 2005 and you will be able to create a Report Server Project with Visual Studio.

Is that something I can download or do I need the CD's?

You need SQL Server 2005 (not Express Edition) installation files (CD/DVD/...).
