How can I backup an sql database via Netbackup.

I am running Veritas Netbackup 6.5. I have a couple of sql servers with multiple databases on them. I've heard that Netbackup can backup sql databases directly. I'm not sure if there are custom scripts needed to do this. I just dont know how to set this up in netbackup. Another note, I dont want to use the sql backup tool. I only want Netbackup to grab a live database and back it up. Thanks.

You can use Netbackup's SQL agent to back up the databases directly - but you'll need to purchase the appropriate Netbackup licenses

I have the license for this. It is installed. I have used the NBSQL Agent to create a bch file. I then created an SQL policy on the Master Server. I pointed the policy to the sql client and told it to use the bch file i created. If I manually launch the backup it always says connecting until it finally times out. I think it actually connects to the server but it never backs up a database. I am not sure what why.

Check this
1. use notepad to open the bch file
2. check if the client name is correct
3. Ensure you are using the correct network.
